Ram Pothineni, known mononymously as Ram, is an Indian film actor who is known for his works in Telugu cinema. He is a nephew of the film producer Sravanthi Ravi Kishore. He won a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut - South.

Personal life

Ram Pothineni, son of Murali Pothineni, Padmasree Pothineni and nephew of film producer Sravanthi Ravi Kishore, has predominantly worked in the Telugu film industry. He made his acting debut in commercial hit film Devadasu (2006). He won Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut - South for the same. After such a smashing break, he became a household name. His credible performances including Ready (2008 film), Maska (2009 film) (2009), Kandireega (2011), Pandaga Chesko (2015) and Nenu Sailaja (2016), Vunnadhi Okate Zindagi (2017), Hello Guru Premakosame (2018) and iSmart Shankar (2019) .. Ram Pothineni is trained to use a Nunchaku (for Devadasu), a traditional form of martial arts, made popular by the legendary erstwhile actor Bruce Lee. While learning this technique he suffered a severe hand injury but continued to shoot, which earned him sincerity and dedication. Ram Pothineni became the first-ever debutant in the Telugu film industry to have a silver jubilee opening film. Ram Pothineni starrer Devadasu became a huge hit, making him the first ever debutant in the Telugu film industry to have a silver jubilee film. Ram Pothineni is among the few actors in the Telugu film industry who knows Nunchaku, a traditional form of martial arts, which was made popular by the legendary erstwhile actor Bruce Lee. He learned the art of his role in Devadasu. It is also quite interesting that while learning the fighting technique he got his hands injured severely but he continued the shooting, which earned him much appreciation from the makers for his sincerity and dedication.

Career

In 2002, Pothineni acted in a Tamil short film titled Adayalam and he won Best actor in European movies festival.He auditioned for the lead role in Kaadhal.Pothineni made his debut in 2006 with Devadasu. His second film, Jagadam opposite Monalisa was directed by Sukumar. Though it did not do well at the box office, it received critical acclaim. He then appeared in Ready alongside Genelia D'Souza directed by Srinu Vaitla with the film becoming a huge success, prompting remakes into other Indian languages and catapulting him to the big league.In 2009, he had two releases, Maska and Ganesh Just Ganesh, the later was not successful at the box office. Maska had one of the biggest openings at the time, collecting over ₹2.5 crores on the opening day and recovering its investment within the first week. In 2010, Pothineni had only one release, Rama Rama Krishna Krishna, produced by Dil Raju and directed by Srivaas. Pothineni's next film was Kandireega.His next latest release was Endhukante Premanta with Tamannaah, directed by Karunakaran and produced by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore. In 2013, Pothineni had another release, Ongole Githa with Kriti Kharbanda directed by Bhaskar and produced by B.V.S.N. Prasad. The movie was sold for a record price in Ram's career, released on 1 February 2013 and was commercial failure at the box office. He next starred with Daggubati Venkatesh in Masala, the remake of the Hindi film Bol Bachchan which was directed by K. Vijaya Bhaskar and jointly produced by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore and Suresh Babu.In 2015, Pothineni starred in Pandaga Chesko directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Paruchuri Kireeti under United Movies Banner.His next releases were Shivam and Nenu Sailaja within a gap of three months in the same year. Both produced by his own production house, Shivam took a great opening but could not sustain due to bad reviews. Surprisingly, the immediate release Nenu Sailaja took a grand opening worldwide with a record collection of 7 crores on day 1, the highest for Ram and did extremely well worldwide. It is the highest viewed music video album for a Telugu film on YouTube with over 3 songs with 25 million views and "Crazy Feeling" with over 30 million views, a record for a Telugu film. Hyper was released on 30 September 2016, directed by Santosh Srinivas and produced under 14 Reels Entertainment. It earned mixed reviews and ended up as an average grosser. In 2017, he had another release, Vunnadi Okkatey Zindagi, produced by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore, which received good reviews. In 2018, he starred in Hello Guru Prema Kosame, directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina. In 2019 he starred in his career biggest Blockbuster iSmart Shankar directed by Puri Jagannath, where he played a Hyderabadi, alongside Nidhhi Agerwal and Nabha Natesh. His upcoming film is Red (2020 film) it Stars Ram Pothineni in a Double Role alongside Nivetha Pethuraj , Amritha Aiyer And Malvika Sharma
